Three French Hens

By “french hens,” I really mean “Operation Christmas Cheer projects.” Last time I checked in, I was baking with HDot. On Saturday, my roommate and I went sledding, well, “GT Snow Racing” to be more specific.  We searched out a hill in our neighborhood with the help of her boyfriend and my mom (apparently everyone knows about hills around here except us). I’d never been on a GTSR before, and was a little apprehensive, until TMac said “Uh, Blondie, all those little kids over there are doing it!” So we pushed off, got to the bottom of the hill alive, and…… repeat. We had stayed on the sleds for a number of runs until we chose the “kiddie” area which was smaller. “Don’t be fooled by the height,” she told some poor soul later in the day. We both ended up bailing pretty hard on that hill, separately. Then she tells me that her friend broke her femur one time while sledding. Score.

French Hen #2 – gift wrapping. I wrapped gifts, and don’t have much to say about it. I also watched “Home for Christmas” with *sigh* JTT,  Winnie the Pooh and Christmas too, and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. The latter movie always freaked me out. I’m not sure why. I think it was the combination of an oversized, sticky tree in the living room and the redneck, white trash brother and his family, and all the old people who can’t hear and can’t remember anything. I just remember NOT enjoying it when I was little. I still didn’t really. Winnie the Pooh, on the other hand, is another story.

French Hen #3 – It is snowing. I decided to be a “Snow Angel” and shovel the lady’s walk across the street. Man, she has a HUGE walk because she’s on the corner. Then she opened the door and was all “Thank you very much! What do I owe you?” and I said “oh nothing, just have a merry Christmas.” and then we chatted for a minute or two and I finished shoveling and went home. I don’t really feel warm fuzzies about it, because it’s continued to snow and the walk is completely covered again. Gah.

Have you done something for someone else this Christmas?

I’m not a big fan of Christmas Vacation either, but mostly because I’ve seen it a thousand times and I’m sick of it.

You’re nice for being a snow angel. Even if it got covered again, if you didn’t shovel then there’d be packed slippery snow underneath the new snow now. That lady would probably have slipped and broken something by now.

You may even have saved a life. Yup.

Hmmm. That’s true. I think someone lives in the house with her, but I’m not sure. I should find out so I know whether to ALWAYS shovel it, or if there’s someone who helps her.
